About
Behind the Column
A small, independent desk that reads ingredient lists for pleasure and press releases with suspicion.
Virelloroundupp began from a simple frustration: most beauty coverage reads like it was written to sell the product being reviewed. Roundups list twenty items with no ranking, every launch is "a game-changer", and the reader is left with a shopping basket rather than a decision. This column does the opposite. Each season we pick a handful of categories, read the evidence, use the products for weeks rather than minutes, and end every piece with a verdict.
How we reach a verdict
We look at three things. First, the evidence for the active ingredient, drawing on peer-reviewed research and guidance from bodies such as the British Association of Dermatologists, the American Academy of Dermatology and national regulators. Second, the formula itself: concentration, pH where relevant, packaging and fragrance. Third, wearability over time, because a product that stings, pills or smells strange will not be used, however good the science.
We would rather recommend three things you keep than thirty you regret.
Independence
We accept no paid placements, sponsored posts or affiliate commissions, and products sent unsolicited are not a route to coverage. Where we discuss specific product types, we buy at retail. The column is published by Virelloroundupp Media Ltd, a small UK company, and is not affiliated with any brand, retailer or manufacturer.
What we are not
We are writers and editors, not your doctor. Nothing here is medical advice. If you have a persistent skin condition, sudden changes, or a mole that worries you, see a GP, pharmacist or dermatologist.
