Your best questions this season, answered without hedging or a discount code.

Is SPF 30 enough for everyday use?

For most daily life, yes, provided you apply enough and choose broad-spectrum protection. Use SPF 50 for long outdoor days, high altitude, snow or strong summer sun. More detail in our sunscreen roundup.

Can I use vitamin C and niacinamide together?

Yes. The old warning was based on test conditions that do not match modern formulas. If your skin is comfortable, layer them or use one in the morning and one at night.

In what order should I apply products?

Generally thinnest to thickest: cleanser, serum, moisturiser, then sunscreen as the final morning step. Do not overthink it; consistency matters far more than sequence.

Are expensive products more effective?

Not reliably. Concentration, formulation and packaging matter more than price. Some of our firmest recommendations are pharmacy staples.

How long before I see results from a new product?

Moisturisers work immediately. Vitamin C and niacinamide usually take four to eight weeks. Retinoids often take three to six months. Give anything at least a month before judging it.

Do I need sunscreen indoors or on cloudy days?

UVA passes through clouds and window glass. A morning application is sensible on most days; reapply if you spend time outdoors.

How should I patch test a new product?

Apply a small amount behind the ear or along the jawline once or twice a day for several days. Stop if redness, itching or swelling appears, and see a pharmacist or doctor if it persists.

Is "clean beauty" safer?

"Clean" has no legal definition. Natural ingredients such as essential oils can be common irritants, while many synthetic ingredients are extremely well tested. Judge formulas, not slogans.
